Dr Prem Saranathan, the Practice Principal and sole owner of Summit Medical Group has in excess of 15 years experience as a medical practitioner, with greater than 14 years of this having been gained in all aspects of General Practice within the Coburg and Brunswick areas.
Born in Sri Lanka and immigrating to Australia in 1988, Prem attended Haileybury College before undertaking his Medical degree at Monash University and completing in 1998. Having gained experience in a variety of medical and surgical disciplines as a junior doctor, as well as working in a variety of metropolitan and rural locations in Victoria, he commenced his general practice training in Coburg in 2001.
Having attained the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2005, he has continued to serve the Coburg community. Most recently as the Practice Principal and sole owner of Coburg Central Medical Clinic from 2008 before moving to bigger and better purpose built facilities in Brunswick at Summit Medical Group in 2013.
Renowned for starting most of his consultations with “Tell me a story ….”, Prem has experience in all aspects of general practice and has a special interest in family medicine, paediatrics and minor surgery.
Prem also has a long and proud commitment to teaching the next generation of young doctors. He has a long standing affiliation with the University of Melbourne and in his capacity as an honorary lecturer not only takes on final year medical students but is also a final year examiner.
In addition, Prem has had a long standing relationship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and is a great supporter of the General Practice Training program that it runs. There are 2 to 3 GP Registrars rotating through the clinic at any one time. The clinic has an excellent training program and received glowing feedback from all who have passed through it.
In his down time, Dr Prem enjoys spending time with his young family and indulging his passion for automotive vehicles and the beach.
